Job Title: Government Sales Manager

Employment Type: Full time – Metro DC area

Tesla Government Inc. seeks a Government Sales Manager with experience building a sales operation from the ground up.  Tesla has developed an approved software platform specifically designed to help US Government offices make more effective use of their information assets.  Our staff works with individual offices to use the platform to:

  • organize documents, files, and data;
  • create and deploy visualization and navigation tools; and
  • facilitate controlled information sharing using a simple interface.

 

We have made a few one-off sales of this platform+service bundle and are now looking for someone who can take what we have learned from these initial sales to develop and implement a sales strategy that will convert our current ad hoc approach into a repeatable process.

Position Summary:

The Government Sales Manager is a new position that will report directly to the CEO.  Success in the position will require working closely with Tesla’s Directors to fully understand the value proposition of our product.  The Government Sales Manager will then be responsible for the design and implementation of a sales approach.

The Government Sales Manager will be responsible for developing compelling ways to present the product to potential customers, creating and feeding a sales pipeline, and converting leads into customers.  This may involve using any of a wide range of approaches to generating leads, including training events, email campaigns, distribution of training materials, participation in technology fairs, creating explainer videos, etc. Tesla has subcontractor support for the creation of marketing materials.

Feeding the sales pipeline might also involve proposing software modifications to the platform that could help to capture new visitors to the site and considering using it for their own offices. Tesla has an in-house development team that supports software feature development.

Our sales to date have been to offices with from 25 to 50 staff members.  There are literally hundreds of similar offices within our pilot agency that are candidates for the use of our platform+service bundle. Success at our pilot agency will lead to rapid expansion to other cabinet-level agencies.

Tesla is headquartered in Falls Church, Virginia and our pilot agency’s main offices are in the DC metropolitan area. Travel, including foreign travel, may be required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Government Sales Manager:

  • Design a sales plan for expanding our product’s footprint in the pilot agency that includes budget and proof points that demonstrate that the plan is working
  • Implement the plan in an orderly and stepwise manner
  • Interact with current clients in person, over the phone, and through email to learn more about motivations and find prospective clients
  • Present proposals, including cost estimates, for specific marketing approaches and their expected value to the program
  • Expand the scale of the sales department as needed to accelerate the process of signing up new customers
  • Forecast realistic sales targets and meet them

  • Creative Problem solver
  • Ability to execute high-value projects with little supervision
  • Knowledge of the idiosyncrasies of selling in the Federal Government space
  • Strong Interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Ability to create engaging copy for marketing purposes

Required Qualifications:

  • US Citizen
  • Located in the DC metropolitan area and able to meet with clients and potential clients as and when needed
  • A track record of success in selling to the Federal Government
  • Solid understanding of sales organizations and the entire sales process
  • Outstanding written and oral communication and persuasion skills
  • Experience developing and presenting pitch decks for internal and external audiences
  • Fluent in English

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience setting up a sales organization and managing the entire sales process, including hiring and training Sales Associates, developing a sales pipeline, etc.
  • Experience with subscription based sales
  • Secret level security clearance
  • BS/MS degree
  • Experience working in government or military
