GIS Developer

Position Summary: Tesla Government, Inc. is seeking a GIS Developer to design, automate, and maintain enterprise GIS applications and workflows. This role involves integrating data from APIs and open sources, developing custom web applications and dashboards, and streamlining ArcGIS Enterprise processes and workflows. We’re looking for a fast-learning, adaptable, and enthusiastic problem-solver who can collaborate with a talented GIS team while contributing creativity and technical expertise to deliver impactful GIS solutions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with a team of GIS Analysts, content specialists, and developers to design, integrate, and deploy client-facing GIS applications, services, and products.
- Develop and maintain customized GIS applications, scripts, and tools to improve workflows, automate repetitive processes, and support decision-making.
- Collect, integrate, and manage geospatial and non-geospatial data from APIs, open data repositories, and third-party sources.
- Automate data updates and ETL workflows in ArcGIS Enterprise using Notebook Server, Python, and related technologies.
- Design, publish, and maintain web maps, dashboards, and reporting tools that enhance the accessibility and usability of GIS data.
- Provide technical support to GIS staff, internal teams, and end users, including troubleshooting and optimization of applications.
- Research and evaluate open-source tools, APIs, and commercial resources to extend and improve enterprise GIS capabilities.
- Deliver training, documentation, and knowledge transfer to strengthen skills across the GIS team and support sustainable workflows.
- Apply problem-solving and troubleshooting methods to quickly identify technical issues and implement effective solutions.
Required Qualifications:
- Ability to develop with front end and backend Javascript frameworks, including REACT
- Familiarity with AWS cloud environments
- Experience with Dockerized containerization for application deployment.
- Ability to build, maintain, and use existing APIs for data integration.
- Proficiency with ArcGIS Enterprise -or- ArcGIS Online (publishing, service management, administration).
- Extensive Python development experience, including using libraries such as arcpy, arcgis, requests, pandas, and selenium in order to successfully automate workflows.
- Knowledge of spatial databases (PostgreSQL/PostGIS, SQL Server, or similar).
- Experience with version control tools such as GitHub.
- Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Computer Science, Geography, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Strong communication and documentation skills, with ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical personnel and clients.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience with open-source GIS tools such as QGIS, Leaflet, Overpass Turbo, osmium, and/or OpenLayers.
- Understanding of UI/UX design principles for user-friendly GIS applications.
- Background in data visualization tools (e.g., ArcGIS Dashboards, Experience Builder).
- Esri certifications.

Salary: $80,000-$90,000. The starting salary will depend on the skills and qualifications of the successful candidate. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range.
